| Community Supported Agriculture
Community Supported Agriculture is an opportunity for people to buy the freshest produce possible, develop a relationship with a local farmer, and take control of the food distribution system.
|
Zestful Gardens is a 30-acre farm in the heart of the Puyallup Valley. Holly and her mother, Valerie, tend 5 acres in intensive vegetables & herbs, another 15 in rotating cover crops and pasture, and 8 in orchard & woodland.
Holly has farmed since 1996 in Northern Scotland, New South Wales, Australia, Up-state New York, and here in the Puyallup valley.
We practice organic and biodynamic agriculture with a deep commitment to sustainable farming and a zest for good food.
Protecting our Ecosystem
Zestful Gardens answers the growing demand for food that is real. In contrast to the homogenous products of today’s megafarms, our customers enjoy vibrant produce that expresses the variety of our seasons.
Our shareholders are assured they are buying food grown with concern for their health and for the health of our farm ecosystem.
|
Here’s How it Works
You pre-pay for a share of the season’s harvest in the winter to meet the farmer’s operating expenses.
In return for your investment, Zestful Gardens share members receive a steady supply of edible dividends weekly throughout the growing season.
As a Zestful Gardens Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) member you also share the risk with the farmer. There is no guarantee that any crop will succeed, but at the same time, with over 80 varieties planted, the chances are high that the member’s investment will pay off!
People who recognize the value of investment in their local economies are establishing a direct relationship with the small-scale farmer who nurtures their food. Thousands of CSA’s are growing nationwide, reorganizing a small part of the food distribution system.

Activities
Throughout the season we offer informative talks, tours, work days, potlucks, children’s activities, and harvest celebrations. These activities are opportunities for members to cultivate community and participate in farm life.
Are you interested in more than great veggies? Become a Core Group member and share your ideas.
Our Core Group plans activities, helps us decide what to grow and enhances the CSA. The group meets quarterly with the farmers. Contact Holly if you’d like to participate.

Distribution Sites
You may pickup your shares at the farm (just off River Road, 5018 40th Street, East, Tacoma, WA), or pickup at a distribution site in town.
|
Cost & Quantities
The season begins in June and continues for 20 weeks through October. A weekly share contains 6-12 fresh items, harvested that morning. We harvest and distribute one size share and encourage members to split a share with friends or neighbors.
One share is perfect for one healthy vegetarian appetite or for a family of four. Zestful Gardens offers a wide variety of fresh and delicious seasonal produce.
Over 80 different varieties are grown including heirloom varieties.
The share cost for the 2008 season is $510. 2008 shares must be purchased no later than April 30.
